As we step into the month of October, a new month, unknown-that we have never seen in the past, our focus will still be to make sure that:
- every single child, every single day is finding a way to feel connected,
- every single child, every single day is being challenged by new learnings and experiences,
- and every single child, every single day knows they have a champion they can turn to.
The 2020 academic year has tested teachers and students to find a new normal for education, connected us in new ways and required our champs to champion from afar. What I have most learned through this process is how much I appreciate the expertise our teachers bring to Cambridge SRIS, the ways in which our students continue to work hard to grow and overall, appreciation for the little things in life — giving a high five, a hug or being able to laugh out loud with many people around. What I appreciate the most about Cambridge SRIS is how even under circumstances we have never experienced we are still a learning and caring community.
Creativity and innovation are valuable tools for an educator to have, and right now, these traits are more important than ever. Finding new ways to connect with students and keeping their spirits as high as possible as we practice social distancing are essential to maintaining educational standards and ensuring the future leaders of our country can achieve the level of success they aspire to.
We are finishing September with many exciting activities one of our most favorite activities is to write and draw our hopes and dreams for grade 1’s. It was so much fun to see them drawing and writing with their families and dancing on live music.
We are very excited and are looking forward to hosting the special SMART Goals and Open Mic Night for our high school students. It will be a wonderful evening with live music and barbeque!
We are also looking forward to executing our first Virtual Spirit Week activity for the whole school. Students, teachers will celebrate ‘virtual spirit week’ to keep school spirit high during COVID-19 pandemic The themes will be more focused on activities and less on dress up days. As this is a time with a limited amount of things to do, this helps give students ideas of activities to partake in.
